JesusYeshua_svgWhat is love? Is it the skip of your heartbeat when “the one” walks in the room? Is it the gentle touch of your newborn as little fingers embrace yours? I've recently discovered that love is not a “what” but a“who”.
The bible reveals to us that God is love (1John 4:8) and that “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.” –john 3:16.  In other words God, who is love, expressed His love for us through The Word that became flesh. God gave love a new name and His name is Jesus Christ.
The Spirit painted for me a beautiful portrait of love by its true name the other day in this very revealing scripture -1 Corinthians 13:4-8 . Walk with me as wesub love with its true name…Jesus.
Jesus is patient, Jesus is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. Jesus does not dishonor others, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs. Jesus does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Jesus never fails. -1 Corinthians 13:4-8
There was a time when I thought that this scripture was an instruction on how-to-love and after the first verse all I could see was my faults and failures.  It wasn't until God removed the veil from my eyes and heart that I saw that this was not a picture of what I should or should not do but  a revelation of Christ who loves us and His unconditional love  toward us.
This is my prayer for you: That this revelation of love takes root and multiplies in your heart today and that, “You, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”-Ephesians 3:17-19 In Jesus’ loving name, Amen.

TOPIC: Christ's Promise to Return

LESSON SCRIPTURE: Revelation 22:6-10, 12-13, 16-21

DEVOTIONAL READING:  II Peter 1:19; Hebrews 9:28; Mark 13:32

CENTRAL VERSE:  "He which testifieh these things saith, Surely I come quickly: Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20

INTRODUCTION: The church has its hope centered on the anticipated return of Jesus. Without that hope the  church would not be different from any other social organization.  What makes the church unique is that we believe in a risen Saviour and that He is coming  back to take the church to enjoy all He ha been preparing for them through the ages.  Christians are eagerly watching the sky every day, looking for its Master to return.

Jesus is Coming Soon (Revelation 22:6-10)
God who spoke through the prophets has now sent His angel to declare that which must soon come to pass in our day. John saw Jesus say that He was coming soon and that those who obey the instructions in the scroll will be blessed.  John was so overwhelmed that he bowed to worship the angel with the scroll.  The angels stopped him and said that he ought to worship God, for he was a creation just as John was.  Only God is worthy of worship.  all those who do what is written on the scroll are to worship God also.  It was then that the angel told John that the scroll was to stay open and not be rolled up, for the time had come for the things that were written in it to pass.

When Jesus Comes (Revelation 22:12-13)
As a church, we often take this matter lightly.  But here again, we have been adequately warned about the things that will happen.  All who stand before Him will receive rewards for what they have done while on earth.  Jesus said that He was the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.  This meant that He had the authority to give rewards, for there is non greater in the entire universe.

The World Must be Told (Revelation 22:16-21)
The church is called not to only be ready for the Master's coming, but they also are to tell others so that everyone else is ready when Jesus comes.  The message that Jesus had for God's people on earth through the angel was simple, yet profound.  Jesus was the shoot from the root of David from what appeared to be cut down.  He was also going to sit on the throne of David in the end times, which was absolute proof of His Messiahship before the world.  Jesus also called Himself the bright and morning star.  This  star was the first star that shined in the darkness, symbolic of the Messiah who is the true light in the world.

The words of the scroll that were declared are seared.  They are not to be added to or taken away from, for the words are God's.  Terrible punishment like that mentioned in the scroll await those who distort the message of the book by adding to or taking away from the judgments of God.  The inheritance in the holy city and one's part in the book of life will be taken away from such people.


ESSENTIAL THOUGHT:  "Tell the world that Jesus is coming quickly."

1.  Why must we worship only God?
2.  Why did Chris identify Himself as "the root and the offspring of David" (verse 16)?
3.  What strong warning is given about altering the message of Revelation?

Yesterday was a sad day for the Boy Scouts and especially for the boys that decide to stay within the Boy Scouts program. Below, our friend, Tony Perkins, says everything that can be said regarding the decision made yesterday allowing young boys who are openly homosexual to join the Boy Scouts. For those boys who will not depart from the principles of God, Flag, Country and Morality a new opportunity is now being developed. After two decades of bitter back and forth, one of the last strongholds for morality in America finally buckled. Late this afternoon, despite a relentless push by Scouts in every state, the National Council exchanged a century-old legacy for a false compromise that puts an American tradition on the pathway to extinction. After 103 years of principled leadership, the organization proved that it was incapable of the same kind of courage it's been instilling in American boys since the beginning of the 1900s. By a lopsided vote, delegates ushered into the Boy Scouts a new era of moral compromise, allowing homosexual boys and turning against a majority of members in the process.

It took strong-arm tactics, political sharks, and corporate harassment, but the national leadership of the BSA finally succeeded in forcing through a piece of policy that robs the Scouts of its innocence. And now, by opening the door to gay young people, legal experts say it's only a matter of time before the rule on homosexuality extends to everyone--including adults. Almost immediately, BSA councils, Scouting parents, and leaders of the faith-based organizations that charter more than two-thirds of the packs and troops will have to decide how to respond to this decision, which obligates every unit "regardless of their religious convictions" to comply. In the last 12 months, BSA's official estimates show as many as 400,000 boys will leave the BSA as a result, devastating the Scouts financially and leaving them very few options legally.

In the meantime, Councils that believed the lie that this was just about the youth are about to find out that the fight for the Scouts is just beginning. "The Boy Scouts of America will not sacrifice its mission, or the youth served by the movement," a BSA statement read, "by allowing the organization to be consumed by a single, divisive, and unresolved societal issue." Unfortunately for them, that sacrifice was already made in today's tragic decision. Now we must stand with the troops across America who remain committed to the guiding principles of scouting that have helped millions of young boys successfully make the journey to manhood.

Bible Band Lesson (May 23, 2013)

TOPIC:  God in Our Presence

LESSON SCRIPTURE:  Revelation 21:9-10, 22: 22:5

DEVOTIONAL READING: II Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:22-33; Ezekiel 47:1-12

CENTRAL VERSE: "And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 22:5

INTRODUCTION:As children of God, we are anxiously waiting for the day to dwell together with Him.  He will relate to His people in an intimate manner, going in and out among them.  The church will be filled with His presence.  Everything we do together will be saturated with God and His holiness.

God's People (Revelation 21:9-10)
The angel who had the power to destroy the earth with the seven plagues spoke to John in his vision.  He was eager to show John where the saints of God would reside.  Notice that he called the church the bride of the Lamb. This is important as we see the intimacy of God with His people.  The bride had been in preparation for many years, and now it was time to celebrate.

John described the New Jerusalem that God has prepared for us, the church.  Paul was right when he said that we cannot conceive what God has prepared for those who love Him. (I Corinthians 2:9)

God in our presence (Revelation 21:22)
In the days of the height of the  Jewish religion, the Temple at Jerusalem was the center of activity.  It was where all the sacrifices were made.  In the New Jerusalem there will be no temple, for there will be no need for sacrifice.  The Lord God and the Lamb (Jesus) had replaced these as the center.  There will be no sun and moon, for the Lord will be the light that will light up the city.  His glory will be brighter than anything anyone had previously known.

Those who give their allegiance to Jesus will walk there in the brightness of His  glory and the kings and the nations of the world will add their honor there as well.  Since there is no night, there will be no need to close any city gates as in the Old Jerusalem.  There will be no evil there and no dishonesty or idolatry will have a place in the new city of   holiness.  Only those who have their names written in the Lamb's book of life will be allowed to enter there.

God's face (Revelation 22:1-5)
Have you ever thought about what God looks like? We know in part because we can see Jesus through the pages of the Bible.  He shows us what God is like.   In New Jerusalem, we will stand by the pure river of the crystal clear water of life.  This flows from the  throne of God and from the Lamb.   Its source is purity and holiness.  The tree of life will be there bearing a new crop of fruit each month.  This is hard for us to understand on this side of Heaven.

The curse of sin will be gone for curses have no effect when the Lamb is present.  The people of God will worship the Lamb with His name on their foreheads.  God will be king forever in perpetual daylight, for where the Lamb is there will always be light.


ESSENTIAL THOUGHT:  "The awesome wonders of this world cannot compare with the wonders of Heaven."

QUESTIONS:
1.  Why is there no need for sun or moon in the eternal city?
2.  Why will the gates of the New Jerusalem remain open all times?
3.  What is the "Lamb's Book of Life" (verse 27)  What happens if one's name is not written in the book?

Bible Band Lesson (May 16, 2013)

TOPIC:  Our New Tabernacle

LESSON SCRIPTURE:  Revelation 21:1-8

DEVOTIONAL READING:  Romans 8:19-22; Hebrews 12:22-24; Deuteronomy 18:9-14

CENTRAL VERSE: Revelation 21:3 

INTRODUCTION: This week our lesson looks into the heart of God and shows us what He has prepared for believers in His love for us.  Our new home is marked by dwelling of God Almighty with humble mankind.  god desires to draw us to Himself, and now He tops it all with a climactic s how His blessing in providing a home for us in which He chooses to dwell.

THE NEW JERUSALEM (Revelation 21:1-2)
The earth we live in will one day pass away.  The Bible tells us that it will be rolled up like a scroll (Revelation 6:14).  John tell us that the sea will also disappear.  A new Heaven and a new earth, with a new city that God has especially prepared for His children, will come down from the holy throne of God.  John saw the holy city in his vision.  John wrote that this new city will be so glorious that it will be like a new bride adorned for her husband.

GOD MAKES HIS HOME (Revelation 21:3-4)
Not only will the new city be beautiful, but God will dwell with mankind in that city.  The presence of God will fill that new place.  It will be marked with the holiness and the beauty that comes from God alone.  All over the world man is seeking God and in the New Jerusalem God will be there.

When Jesus was here on earth, people caught a glimpse of what it would be like to dwell with God.  In the New Jerusalem, there will be no taint of man's sin to spoil the glory that comes with the presence of God Almighty.  God and man will dwell side by side, and man will enjoy the presence of God in joyous fellowship just as He had originally planned for him in the Garden of Eden.

ALL THINGS ARE NEW  (Revelation 21:5-8)
God will sit on the throne in the new city and ordain all things to be perfectly new.  It will be transformed by His own command.  In John's vision Jesus loudly proclaimed the truth that He is the beginning and the end (the Alpha and the Omega).  He also called all who are thirsty, come to Him for drink in order to be fully satisfied.  He offered all who are thirsty, springs of water so that they will never thirst again.

Those who reject our God are cowards, unbelievers, murderers, followers of witchcraft, advocates of immorality, idolaters, and liars.  They will be cast into the lake of fire.  This is called the second death.  They will miss the blessings of the New Jerusalem with God and His people.

ESSENTIAL THOUGHT:
"Prepare to move into your new home in peace and harmony."

QUESTIONS:
1.  What became of "the first heaven and the first earth" (Revelation 21:1)?
2.  How does the New Jerusalem appear in John's vision?
3.  What kinds of people will end up in the lake of fire? How can they avoid this judgement?

Gospel Open Mic Event


It was the week before Christmas when I got the call from my Mom, her doctor just called with her results, she has breast cancer. The words were like a knife to my heart. I had so many questions. “Where are you?” I said. “On my way to your house.” She said. I only had a few minutes to get some answers. As soon as I hung up I cried out to God I could barely get the words out, all I could say was, “Father God, what’s going on with my mom.” And He said, “This is not unto death but to draw her.” There was a knock at my door, it was my mom. As I walked to the door I went over in my mind what God said to me and when I opened the door only one thought filled my heart…I will not cry, I will not doubt.. I will stand on His promise.

I went to every appointment, saw the x-rays, heard the horror stories and saw the fear on my mother’s face, yet I did not cry… I did not doubt… I stood on God’s promise. Her surgery was 2 days before Christmas and as she laid in that hospital bed tears rolling down her face my heart wanted to break but I did not cry, I did not doubt I placed my hands on her chest and quietly prayed over her. At this point in our journey I was living off of a little sleep, take-out and hospital food but I didn't feel weary. There was a strength in me that wasn't my own. A strength that kept me strong, kept me sharp and confident that God will do what He said He would do. In the weeks to come I saw God’s hand all around us. He gave us favor with the doctor’s, the nurses, the staff, strangers went out of their way to welcome us, help us, make us laugh and even find treats for us.
The recovery and the treatments were pretty rough but I wasn't moved by what I saw. The chemo tearing away at her, changing her, ripping what I know to be my mom, a vibrant, independent woman, away from us. What moved me was the greater Spirit that was in me, a Spirit that embraced us, went ahead of us and perfectly orchestrated every appointment and every procedure.  That’s what encouraged me and gave me hope. God’s promise was all I chose to see.
It’s been 4 ½ years, since that life-changing call. After the surgery, the chemo and the radiation my mom emerged healthy, strong, vibrant, cancer free and saved (Hallelujah!)For my birthday my mother wrote me a very beautiful letter. In it she thanked me for being there, for never complaining, for never allowing her to feel sorry for herself or fall apart. She confessed her belief in God to me and said that it was all because she saw God in me, she felt His strength and His presence in me and around me and for the first time during our breast cancer journey …I cried.
I learned something about God’s grace that day; that if you take yourself out of the way God will take you all of the way. I thank God for saving, healing and drawing my mom. I thank Him for using me and for giving me the courage and the strength to stand. Thanks to God I can spend another Mother’s day with my mom. I want to encourage you in this season of your life by letting you know that there is no disease, no addiction, no pain or heartbreak in your life that is too big for our God to handle. He will help you, He will heal you and He will give you the courage and the strength to stand. In Jesus name I pray that God’s grace and peace be multiplied to you today, Amen.

Bible Band Lesson (May 9, 2013)

TOPIC:  The Unforgettable Feast

LESSON SCRIPTURE: Revelation 19:5-10

DEVOTIONAL READING:  Revelation 19:1-21

CENTRAL VERSE:  Revelation 19:6

INTRODUCTION: As Christians we often wonder what it will be like living in God's new world.  The Bible tells us that the older order will give way to a new one where there will be holiness and where God will be in absolute control.  We will worship Him day an night.  Our less this week focuses our attention on that final banquet at which all the redeemed will be present as we s it with the Kings of Kings.

THE VOICE FROM THE THRONE Revelation 19:5
John continued to watch in his vision the things that God was revealing to him. In this part of the vision, John heard a voice that came from the throne.  He listened carefully.  It is a call to praise God.  The call is  extended to all the servants of God.

These servants of God are called to join in with the twenty0-four elders and the other living beings who are already in the process of lifting up the name of their God in praise and worship.  Included in this large number of people who worship God are those who fear Him.  Fear in the Bible is not a cringing fear but a sense of awe that comes from standing in the holy presence of Deity.  John heard the invitation to praise extended to all those who fear and reverence the God who sits on the throne.
 
THE WEDDING FEAST Revelation 19:6-8
Eating together has always been a mark of celebration through the ages.  In the kingdom, that will certainly be the case.  A loud chorus of voices recognizes that God is the center of attraction.  John heard what was like the roar of waives or thunder, and it shouted words of praise to God.  The people recognize God as their King.  He is their ruler.  They rejoice and honor Him by joining in the wedding feast that God has prepared for His people, the redeemed.

The bride is the church, the people of God.  the bride also wears fine linen.  We are told that fine linen is symbolic of the good works done b y those who belong to God.  We learn here that this event is the grand finale of what God has been doing through the centuries.  He is preparing the very best for His people.  This includes a new  city and the wedding feast.  He also has made sure that God and man are in sweet and intimate fellowship for all time .  This is demonstrated by the wedding feast of the Lamb where Jesus celebrates the receiving of His bride, the church.

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE INVITED TO THE FEAST Revelation 19:9-10
Only those who are invited are welcomed at the final banquet of the Lamb.  Those who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb can come to this feast.  Jesus has done His part already.  He died on the cross for us.  He shed His blood so that we could be cleansed.  Now it is up to us to do our part.  We have to accept Him.  As children of God we are invited to the final banquet.

ESSENTIAL THOUGHT:
"Accept Jesus as your personal Savior and receive your invitation.."

1.  What is the marriage of the Lamb (verse 7)?  Who is the wife of the Lamb?
2.  When did the marriage supper occur?

Dominick Anderson signs with Presentation College

CONGRATULATIONS FROM YOUR LOV CHURCH FAMILY

It’s been easy for West Valley High School senior Dominick Anderson to get a preview of playing football for Presentation College in the near future.  The Wolfpack running back and defensive back signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon with Presentation during a ceremony Wednesday afternoon in the West Valley library.  Anderson, 6 feet and 175 pounds, sat at the signing table with his mother, Denise Santos, while teammates, classmates and Wolfpack head coach John Patterson looked on.

Anderson hasn’t yet been to the Presentaton campus in Aberdeen, S.D., but he’s exchanged telephone calls and emails with Saints coaches. He’s also gained advice from former Wolfpack players Jarael Hornsby, a Presentation linebacker, and Will Vealy, who developed into a standout rusher and wide receiver for the Saints.  “They said it’s a good program to go to. It had humble beginnings and started out small,” Anderson said.

Presentation started football in 2011 at the NCAA Division III and is moving this season to NAIA. The Saints went 3-7 overall in their first two seasons.  “They (Vealy and Hornsby) said not to expect anything to be given to you at the collegiate level. You’ve got to work for everything,” Anderson said. “So I’m just going down there with determination. I’m just going to contribute however they need me.”

Anderson is scheduled to be among many Alaskans for Presentation. Its 2013 roster has 104 players, with 20 from Alaska, and among that group, five are from the Interior, including recent recruit and North Pole senior Ryan Wicklund, a linebacker and fullback, and Connor O’Daniel, a freshman offensive lineman from Lathrop.  “It’s just comfortable being around friends who you already know and familiar faces,” Anderson said. “It played a pretty big part in my decision.”

Anderson is scheduled to play primarily at tailback and see occasional action as a safety.
The 18-year-old is anxious to read the Presentation playbook, and Vealy has told him what to expect as a Saints tailback.  “He’s teaching me a lot of things and helping me with different workouts to prepare myself so I won’t be shell-shocked when I get down there,” Anderson said.
Anderson is taking advantage of any advice from Vealy, whom Anderson said is transferring to Oklahoma State University, a member of the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference.
“I know there’s plenty of other capable running backs down there,” Anderson said. “I’m ready to compete. I want to start; I didn’t come to be on the bench. I’m ready to work and show the coaches that they can expect a lot out of me.”

Patterson said the Saints can expect leadership from Anderson, who averaged a team-high 5.16 yards per carry last season. Anderson, despite an injury limiting him in West Valley’s last two games of 2012, rushed 75 times for more than 400 yards and contributed 10 tackles defensively.
“He’s got a great heart, he’s never negative and he does everything you ask of him,” Patterson said. “You don’t have to worry about Dom when it comes to grades and academics. His behavior in the classroom is outstanding.”

Anderson is planning to major in sports administration at Presentation.
