Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.- John 15:12-13

In the book of Matthew Jesus tells a parable of a Father who asked his two sons to do some work in the vineyard. The first son said, “I will not”, but then later he changed his mind and went. The other son said, “I will sir”, but He didn’t go. Jesus pointed out that the first son did the will of his father. The revelation of the parable is this, the first son didn't want to go but he placed his feelings and what he wanted to do aside (turned from self and turned to Christ) to fulfill the will of his father. The other son said he would go but chose to do what he wanted to do that day instead (chose self).
What is the will of the Father? To have sons and daughters 2 Corinthians 6:18. To see that none perish Ezekiel 33:11. To have an intimate relationship with you John 17:22-23. We accomplish the Father’s will by obeying the command that is the fulfillment of all commandments, the command to Love.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 (Romans 13: 8-10)
A True Story
There was a man dealing with the fallout of a business project that fell through. He was treated unfairly and was very frustrated about the whole thing when his brother in Christ asked him to pray for him because he was having a rough day. The first man placed his own struggles aside to help his friend who was in need.
That is love! That is the fulfillment of the new covenant of love. That is the will of our Father.
Further Note From the Parable
Jesus also went on to say that the sinners who were shown the way of righteousness (Christ being the way of righteousness for us today)  were entering the Kingdom of God ahead of the Religious leaders because they would not turn away from their own selfish ways and self-righteousness like the sinners had by turning to and believing in Jesus.
